Because the original plan was changed to make space for the interior basement stairs the roof has some really tight valleys. I began to put heating wire in the valleys last fall to try and prevent the ice dams and glacial
build up we had a year ago but I wasn't satisfied and took it out. (note: do not have coiled wire plugged in while installing to keep hands warm! I thought it was a good idea but the coating melted from the wire.) The snow rake is a great alternative. It removes unwanted snow at a much lower cost and provides a bit of exercise with some fresh air . Heating coils about $200. Snow rake $50.
