Spring is in the air!
The shelving for the cookbooks was completed this week. We will be searching for some bookshelves for the downstairs bedroom-too many books! We are off to Target, Pier One, etc. instead of IKEA.

Canada Day
Peter and his Canada fishing buddies had a fish dinner at our house Saturday. Smelled "like fish" when I got home from the class I was taking in Madison. I did get some leftover German Potato Salad and coleslaw. We are suppose to get a bunch of snow in the next two days-just so we get through the 100th Day of School tomorrow!!!!!!!

Work weekend
We spent a lot of time cleaning up at the house and Andrea spent most of the weekend cleaning out stuff at school. It feels really good to do some "spring cleaning". It has been a nice sunny weekend-but cold. We did some shopping to finish off the girls' redo (pillows).

Marquette -- Gray skies and melty
Lots of snow had melted in MQT. Tonight it is suppose to get colder and snow again. A Relaxing Weekend in Marquette, Michigan
Andrea had Friday off from school so we traveled to Stevens Point to watch a swim meet that featured several swimmers that Peter had coached.It was fun to see Quinn and Anna swim against each other, Kelsey, and Kelly K. from Green Bay and Whitney B. from Schroeder. They are all swimming for different colleges, from Stevens Point, to Northern Michigan, Minnesota State, and St. Olaf. We talked to their parents and saw old coaches and officials that Peter had worked with. Then we were off to Marquette to visit Haley and Bill. We shopped, went to Negaunee to scavenger through several antique shops, and saw "Where the Wild Things Are" for a buck at the University. A relaxing time and good to get away-far away for some down time. Thanks Haley and Bill. Of course we brought home some Lake Superior fish-fresh herring, smoked fish, and some other goodies. Hurray! We set up the Netfix account and chose our flix! Thanks Emily, Haley, Jana, and Jesse for a great Christmas gift! We will be watching "The Gods Must Be Crazy!" this week.

Eagle Herald Featured Couple
Peter and Andrea Rhoades of New Holstein, WI, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jana, to Jared Bevill, son of Jeff and Jackie Bevill of Weatherford, TX.
The bride-to-be is a 2001 graduate of Marinette High School and is a petty officer on the Coast Guard Cutter, Cypress, stationed in Mobile, AL. Jared, a 2004 graduate of Graham High School, is a petty officer on the Coast Guard Cutter, Zephyr, stationed in Pascagoula, MS.
The couple is planning a September 2010 wedding in Weatherford, TX.

A beautiful day on Elkhart Lake
Peter and I went for a beautiful drive this morning checking out a few local lakes to see how ice fishing is going. One 34 inch Northern on this lake, but not much else. You can see the fish laying in the snow on the right side of this picture-enlarged. Wilke Lake had more fishing and tip ups. In the distance you can see a retreat center owned by Indiana University-really a cool place. We went to Hennings Cheese factory-our new favorite cheese place around here. We also found a farm that sells jumbo fresh brown eggs. Some good football on this weekend-go Vikings (?) beat the Cowboys!Monday, January 11, 2010
More visitors for the weekend
Micah came Saturday and spent the night. We enjoyed some Mexican food and a great time on the sledding hill. Linda and Larry arrived on Sunday and we traveled to Blancks in Johnsburg to watch the Packer Game and have a delicious supper. It is fun to share our new home! Today is CLOSING on the house!

Happy New Year! (Testing my Dick Cheney smile)
Peter and I are so happy to have everyone home for the holidays. Our four girls and their guys traveled from the north, south, east, and west to New Holstein to spend our first Christmas together in our new home.
Emily and Jon are living in Colorado Springs busy working on their new home. Jon works with a computer group and Emily is busy setting clients up with the proper health insurance as she works with her longtime college friend, Andrea. They enjoy the mountain fun, snow, camping, and friends. Their cats, FDR "kitty" and Chino are enjoying the new house too!
Haley and Bill continue to work for Northern Michigan University and adding new twists to their house and yard. Biking, running, skiing, water fun, crafts, gardening and yard sales keep them busy all year long. We enjoy trips up to Lake Superior to visit them. A wonderful place to work and play.
Jana and Jared both spend their time on the water. Jared on his Coast Guard boat, the Zephyr and Jana on Coast Guard Cutter Cypress. They are busy planning their September 3rd wedding in Texas. They call Mobile, Alabama home for now. They rescued their dog Abby who joins Chester their "hot dog." Jared had a chance to go bow hunting while he was visiting and got a taste of snow and cold!
Jesse and Eric met in Athens, Ohio where they both work and enjoy living in the country where their dogs Leica, Bitty, and Bobo can run and play. Work, music, cooking and baking, and enjoying friends keep them busy. They are thinking of relocating in the future and we are hoping for Wisconsin.
Peter and I have been building our home for over a year and we can finally say "It's done." Well, almost! We love it. Peter has done the commuting this year as he continues his concrete work in the Marinette area. This year he can concentrate on this area. I still have a great love for teaching and have a blast with my kindergartners each year. When one of my little boys informed me that Christmas Eve was tomorrow-I exclaimed that I had a lot of work to do. He responded."Well Mrs. Rhoades, maybe I can help you out with that!"

Eric is over by the computer getting some Dylan CDs set. Haley is working on her hat knitting. Emily and Jon hanging out with Leica. Jesse testing the Colorado brew, Jana and Bill discussing Chester, and Jared working on a new game.
